The Practice Enterprise Network was created in 1993 in Essen, Germany, as a project funded by the European Union. Since 1997, the network has been managed by the non-profit association PEN Worldwide (formerly EUROPEN-PEN International).
The aim of the international network is to help education and training organizations in participating countries provide training in business and entrepreneurship skills through the Practice Enterprise's unique methodology based on 'learning-by-doing'.
Today, PEN Worldwide manages an international network of more than 7,000 Practice Enterprise (PEs) in schools, universities, vocational training institutions, companies and training centers in more than 40 countries around the world.
More than 200,000 interns train at practice enterprises each year. There are Central Offices in each country that manage the national Practice Enterprises.
Through their participation in PEN Worldwide, Central Offices in member countries exchange best practices, maintain international contacts to support international trade, between the practice enterprises, as well as carry out exchanges of trainees and instructors.
